I wish to apologise for being away for a long while since my last update a year ago.... Here is one of my trip to South America again, but this time I went to French Guiana (an oversea region of France) for hunt of Aimara the Wolf Fish.... After a long flight from Singapore via Paris, I finally reach there 2 days later and quickly bunk in the jungle hut before we transfer to the water......
Woke up the next morning and setting up to go to the fishing ground....
Well checked the food and gasoline before depart....
After a few hours of ground and water transfer, finally I had reached the floating rest house where I was going to stay during my fishing here......
The rain started to fall heavily that evening,... And what do you know.... the guide said this is the start of the raining season.... and it is going to be like this for the whole week during our stay.....hard to imagine how it is going to affect the fishing conditions.....
Our first day of fishing....
After a few hours of trying,... I landed my fist Aimara (Hoplias aimara)... It is small but I am excited of its exotic appearance and aggressive to attack the surface lure....
Foul hooked a bait fish....
Caught a slightly bigger Wolf Fish when the rain started to fall again.....
Nothing turned up after the rain stopped.... I called it a day and went back to the floating rest house....
The second day we tried at the fast flowing water near the river mouth.....
Yes! Caught a decent sized Aimara....What a powerful, aggressive and prehistoric looking fish, I can't believe it really gave a good fight under the strong current.....
Look at its fearsome teeth.... that's how it crush the lures....
This Aimara weight 11 kg.... it was my biggest catch during the trip... but I heard some anglers caught more than 20kg specimens from this river....
No matter how many times I look at the big mouth of this Aimara Wolf Fish,... I am always still impressed with its awesome features.....
Meanwhile at the floating rest house you can catch some Carp fish for a little pass time....
This strange looking fish "Kamenourou" (Leporinus friderici friderici) in these waters fight strongly too.....
This Threespoted leoporinus "Kamenourou" has a very sharp human like teeth..... it will bite you if you are careless....
Plenty of catches all around......
Some other unknown fishes....
Plenty of food & beverages served during our stay at the floating hotel.....
Effective lures that were used for this fishing trip.....
This popper lure is the best among the lot.....
The raining season brought abundant of water flowing down the rivers.....
And the giant Aimara ambushes in the fast running water for it's prey.....
It is hard to imagine how this fish can actually wait & hide in the fast flowing rapids....
Some wonderful catches of these great specimens,.... and thanks to my guide Dominique who has given his full undivided service to me.... Yeah! Beautiful catches.....
Admire at this fossil like looking creature.....
After shooting a few of my catches..... my cameraman Hoe was eager to try his luck too....
But, this is what he caught for his maiden hooked up...... Hahahah!....
After a few tries and more miss bites,... he finally hooked a big guy at a small rapid down stream..... This Aimara sure was a fighter,... its ferrocious, acrobatic and powerful fight is essential to all anglers.....
Happy catch by Hoe..... Awesome!!
Some flora in these waters....
Rain, rain, and more rain......
The Acoupa Weakfish (Cynoscion acoupa) some kind of freshwater croaker also a predatory species in these waters..... Well, you can often catch them by vertical jigging along the deep pool area...
Well checked the food and gasoline before depart....
