French Attraction to Toman Fishing I

Toman (Giant Snakehead) fishing is no longer just a popular activity in South East Asia but has actually attracted a lot of international attention as well. A French duo has taken up the challenge to come to Malaysia to have a hands on experience.....

We headed out at first light.....
During their maiden trip here, the water level was extremely low indeed.....
Many Tomans were sighted.... There were some bites but most of them eluded the French guys. Here's one that didn't get away..... OMG! Such a small baby Toman for Sebastian....
Ahhhh,.....The biggies were giving the Frenchman a hard time.... They were very elusive indeed....
To quench his thirst (.....for tomans probably), watermelon was a heaven in sight.....
His never say die attitude brought him out into the open again in the afternoon.....
A scene of calm and tranquility...... but where is the ripple created by the Tomans.....
Where are you guys......????
Yes, finally something decent out of the water......
Usually at this time of year, the water level is much higher than this. However, it was not to be during Manu and Sebastian's visit....
Another hit..... but, small guy....
The hot afternoon sun was just too much for everybody,... taking a quick nap under the tree shades after lunch break.....
..... please don't ask about the result..... Sighhhhh!!
The first 3 days was a disaster with zero catches,.... and yet zero big fish has landed so far was... is really driving them both crazy..... Well, we were at it again early in the morning.......
What a sight it was - the morning sun......
This time of the year is very hot and humid due to the El Nino effect.... Seems like local farmers are taking advantage of this situation to clear their farm land. This is a common sight each year along the Titiwangsa Ranges in Peninsular Malaysia.....
Yes! Finally a decent sized Toman is landed by Sebastian....
......and the fight didn't stop there.... But, over all it was not a good result for the both of them.... Hope they have better luck next time..........

Toman Fishing in Malaysia

During the Chinese New Year period, our friend Gong Lei came back again to challenge the Toman,... and this time he led a group of 4 Chinese anglers for the challenge too.....

Beautiful scenery around the lake.....
Plenty of catches from Gong Lei and friends,... he is indeed an avid fisherman with a passion towards Toman (Giant Snakehead).....
Watch Gong Lei fishing on the Youtube...... Isn't it awesome?!

They are really having an amazing time there...... look at their results!.....
Taking a break under the foliage....
Afternoon rest after lunch before continue fishing under the blazing hot sun over the evening....
Congratulations to all of the Chinese anglers for their wonderful catches......

Less Desirable Result from Temenggor

Giant Snakehead (TOMAN) Fishing in Malaysia lately has recieved much attention from oversea anglers, especially anglers from mainland China.... Due to the lack of languages barrier (Malaysian speaks well Mandarin too), the Chinese anglers tent to choose Malaysia as their fishing destination.....

Land mark in KL, twin towers at KL City Centre.....
The famous Indian temple - Batu Caves.....
Preparing the fishing gears on the Boathouse in Temenggor Lake.....
Toman Fishing is mostly a Sight Fishing Game in Malaysia.... due to the landscape and the dam structure here in Temenggor it has very little place for Blind Casting Game..... To be hornest, Toman Sight Fishing is not an easy job for a beginner, First you must have a good hearing, good eye sight and a good casting skills to catch them with lures..... What normally we practice, first we locate the Toman by sighting the fish gulping air from the surface and then cast the lure as fast as you can with lightning speed.... so that the lures can swim infront of the fish....
Even with all the right moves, skill and know-how, you might still end up with a 50/50% chance of the fish taking the lure..... Usually for beginners who wants to take up the challenge of Toman Game Fishing, the first 2 days is mostly a practice and an experiencing period of understanding the game..... Of course sometimes it very much depends on luck too... In the event you come across an aggressive feeding day, all the aforesaid does not apply anymore.... The fish will just take any lure in sight, sometimes attacking even from a distance of 2 - 3M away..... defying all logic.
The result was not that promising that trip..... resulting only in small sized catches....
OMG! Ikan Patong (Pristolepis fasciatus) caught with lure......
Jungle Perch SEBARAU (Hampala macrolepidota )......
 A mama sized Toman......
Well, fishing sometimes turn out with poor result and the takings were not so impressive this time around..... hope everyone will try again soon in the future.....
