Lake Kenyir & Air Kuning Expedition

A group of 5 Chinese friends from Macau, Beijing and USA had came for Toman hunting at Kenyir lake and Peacock Bassing at Air Kuning for a week on the 19th of March...., our journey
started from KL, departed at around 2:30am and arrived at Lake Kenyir, Pengkalan Gawi at 8:00am where we had our breakfast at Kuala Berang town........While there we stayed on a Boathouse and headed South West to Sg. Cacing, Taman Negara......" Here we come....... LAKE KENYIR "!Views of our boathouse..........
There are 6 rooms on the mother boat....Inside the room....Living room.....Mother boat towling 9 boats for our usage later.....Dining & Kitchen space.....The boat captain prepares sumptious meal of 5 dishes 3 meals a day onboard..... You can expect the finest food.... We took off at dawn and hope for a big catch.....
Gorgeous sights around Lake Kenyir.......
For this trip we have Fly Fishing and Lure Fishing........our tackles and Lures......
After a few days of trying hard......we only managed to catch small fishes by lure fishing. It seems
this time of the day, the fish are not aggressive on taking our artificial baits.......Here are some catches after a hard works......

Finally, we changed our approach by using live bait........And the catch is fabulous......Even day time the catfish is aggressive as at night.........Ta.....daaaa!! Steam catfish........Yummy yummy!!!Lunch time.........what a satifying meal but not with the satifying result on lure fishing.......Sighhhhh
So, here I stop trying to fish by lure...... Stay back, try some live bait fishing at the mother boat..... relax and beer drinking
Live bait with Lampan fish.......See! Not bad for live bait fishing result..... Huh!
First, a Giant Featherback......Then, a Toman of 4kgs plus.....A Marble Goby...."BAUNG" Catfish....Some smaller Featherbacks.....LAMPAN fish 1kg plus....Became my beer acompanying snack "Grill Lampan with Sambal Belacan".......HeHeHeOur friend Dennis tried hard with his Fly Fishing and finally, rewarded with a 2 kg plus "SEBARAU" The Jungle Perch......on his popper fly.
Look at the smiling face.......real achievement, after all it is hard to fish by artificial lure...And it became our dinner....... with the head served steamed in soya sauce. And the tail deep fried, garnished with chilies......For those who had skipped Fishing, they went to frolick in the stream......
Cool and clear stream......some small fish nibbling at my feet.... Tickle! tickle!A sucker fish from the stream....look cute, hah.....It was a wonderful trip though the fishing part is less then satifiying.......
Bye bye to our boathouse..... We went back by a fast boat.....took us 1 and half hours only, instead of 5 hours by mother boat.
On our way to Air Kuning, we stopped by an elephant sanctuary.....And tried some Durian fruit along the way..... Some like it, some did not...... Stopped by a souvenir shop at Cameron Highland......
Inpressed with the sight of a horn beetle........ Even showed them the Insect catcher of an Indegenius people....... At his home........full of Insect Speciments....
At Tg. Tualang where we had our dinner of a local famous dish -Blue Claw Freshwater Prawn....Continued fishing at Air Kuning on the next day..........It was easier here to catch a fish......Ha Ha Ha!Everyone caught a fish or two in the morning........
The whole morning Peacock Bass is responding especially to the popper & pencilbait.....extensively. Everyone was so happy with their catches......Our Fly guy in action again..........Good catch man!!.........The end...... See you guys next time......SOON!
