Squid fever 烏賊祭り

It's true, speed kills....... too bad for this small fella stuck on my car on the way to the East Coast, Pekan town.....
The boat set sail in the morning, this time we grouped-up with some friends from China and Singapore...... together we went wild fishing squid on rocky Pulau Berhala.......
It took us less than an hour to reach there with this powerful outboard engines even with rough sea conditions.......
Here we come...... it's been a while since my last trip to this Island, kind of miss it.
It needed everyone effort to unload the gears from the boat in choppy water condition.....Views from the island.....After setting up their fishing gear, everyone went trying their luck....... Yeah! My first squid....... Beautiful!Me & my catch......
Jeff caught himself a crab??.....
Frank's catches......
Everyone was emotionally engaged from the squid fishing experience........
Even our freshy lady angler........ 頑張って!Not bad for a beginner.......... Lady luck??? Ha Ha Ha!Plentiful squids....... can stock up my freezer for many months......
Lunch time! Jeff cooked his noodle with freshly caught squid...... Mmmmm Goody!
We even tried it SASHIMI style, this is by far the best way to taste it.......
Look at the bait fishes.......No wonder there are so many squid around the island.
And plenty of live oysters....... But we had no time for it.....
We also went boat fishing around the area.....
Squid fever!!!Look at the mess...... Don't put the blame on the squid, blame the handler. ( This was caused by Hoe )
Happy faces.....Our boatman, Ricky & his catches.... Two types of squid.....
Our lady angler from China, not doing too bad herself.......
I think these catches will last a while before we make another trip like this....... Heh Heh Heh!

FISH ALERT! RM10,000 REWARD

Malaysia, The Terengganu state goverment is encouraging anglers from all over the world to catch the Kenyir Monster (Arapaima Gigas). Now the reward is RM10,000 for a live catch only...
Someone claimed that the Kenyir Monster is even bigger than the same species in South America - about 4.5 meters long....... The fish, dubbed the Kenyir Monster by the locals, created quite a stir after the death of 2 men (one angler & one forest officer) on 17 June, alledgely linked to the fish........ Want to give it a try?!

Since the last trip to Kuala Meruap on April, this time I decided to try and explore around some where close to Sandakan town. So, we don't need such a long time to go fishing Black Bass in Sandakan.......After contacted our friends in Sandakan, BA, Hoe & me flew over last week in search of a new Black Bass fishing ground located at Sukau, about 120km away from Sandakan....In the remote area of Sukau, you can't find any petrol stations. We needed to buy our fuel before hand from Sandakan...... Our friend Lan warmly greeted us...... with her extreme driving skills.Wonderful beef noodle with rich tasty soup for lunch on the way to Sukau......Signboard at the road side showing direction to Kampong Sukau......After about 2 hours drive we reached the Kinabatangan river, one of the Sabah's greatest river with a lenght of 560km...... Loading up into the boat......Here we go.......Peace!!The natives "Orang Sungei" large woooden house stood along the Kinabatangan river......
ferry service along the river....... Finally, we reached one of the Orang Sungei's home which belong to our local guide Osman..... Building house raised high on stilts to avoid any floods.......Guest room for us......Water for shower and toilet comes from the river......
After we unpacked our goods...... we went to survey the nearby river, Menanggol River..... A still backwater system is the home of many wildlifes....
Everyone is so excited with what predatory fish lies beneath....
But in the everning thunder storm struck.....better rush back......
After the storm, we did a little night fishing...... well, here was the catch, catfish Lais....Freashwater prawn..... Udang Galah
Zzzzzzzz.......... Bed time.

Back to Sukau that everning....... really long journey to go to the sea from here ( it took 4 hours to get back because of fighting the current on the way back)
This Sukau's Chanai..... Crispy and delicious eat together with Sambal Belacan...... Yummy!
Discussing the plan for tomorow....... Where to go??!Next day, we decided to try at Menanggor River...... Menanggor River home to many precious wildlife......Proboscis monkey, found only in Borneo with thier huge fleshy nose......
